PROP RPM vs THRUST

By Jim Feather

This chart shows the static thrust produced by four common prop sizes. The vertical scale is the thrust in ounces, and the horizontal scale is RPM x 1000. The chart shows that large props turning slowly produce considerably more thrust than smaller ones turning fast.

The light blue, green, and yellow lines indicate the 50, 100, and 200 watt power levels. So for example, to turn a 14 x 9 prop at 5500 RPM would take 200 watts, it would also take 200 watts to turn an 8 x 9 prop at 13,200 RPM .

However, the 14 x 9 prop would be producing 61OZ  of thrust, where as the 8 x 5 prop would would only be producing 28OZ.
