First Look

The Tower Hobbies Uproar .60 comes well packed and has very detailed manual. The die cut parts are perfectly cut and practically fall out of the balsa sheets. The wings plug into the fuselage on a removable aluminum tube and are held on by 1/4x20 nylon bolts and nuts. The elevator and rudder servos are mounted in the rear of the fuselage.

A (not too) sturdy landing gear is supplied.

The horizontal and vertical stabilizers are built up using 5/16" balsa. The main fuselage is constructed of 4 pieces of 1/8" balsa with a 1/8" plywood doubler. The wing features webbed spruce spars.

I decided to cover the model with Circus Pink MonoCote.. A suggestion that my Daughter Jess had. She helped design the Lightning bolts and overall scheme of the model. A Thunder Tiger 91 4 stroke was installed to provide power. The model came out a bit nose heavy with the CG located according to the plans, I had to add a few oz. of lead in the tail to balance it out.

Manual - The manual is very detailed as well as the rolled plans.

Assembly- You need to pay strict attention to the steps before gluing everything in place. Case in point, Like a moron I was 90% finished with the Fuse and wings. I noticed that the wing tube wasn’t fitting in the fuse as it should, leaving a small gap in the trailing  edge of the wing were it locks into the fuselage. I ended up realigning the center wing mounts after a lot of hacking and  Regluing. This could have been avoided if I measured and remeasured.  Measure , measure measure…!!!

Summary

The first flight was great. The model took off leaping from the runway. It handled like a dream. That is after it was trimmed out. It was ready to fly at half throttle. It had no bad characteristics in the air. The Landing gear is a bit flimsy and when I landed a bit too hard it spread out from the weight and broke a prop. I reinforced the gear by putting in cross braces with threaded rod. With my limited ability I was able to do rolls, loops, split S, Immelman turns, Stall turns with ease. This kit was a blast to build and I highly recommend the experience.
