Happy New Year! We started out this year with a great time at the annual New Year’s Day “Freeze Fly”. As it turned out, Mother Nature decided to drop a few inches of powder on New Year’s Eve continuing through the night. Some flyer’s had skis, but thanks to Steve Ludwig, Brian Ruscoe and Ed Olstein, even the planes with wheels could fly.

The years first flights were piloted by Ed Olstein, electric, and Steve Ludwig, powered. Once again, we were treated to the sight of Steve’s plane with a “Happy New Year’ banner in tow. Great job Steve!

For those flyer’s with skis, the field was theirs. And for those of us without, the cleared runway measured approximately 15 ft by 80 ft. It was located on the flight line directly in front of the impound and trailer with a taxiway leading to the pits. Flying with such a shortened field was really a great challenge. It was fun to see the pilots handle it, some even doing “touch and goes”.

Message from the prez……
Guys, we ended the year tremendously with a great holiday party, the food was great and all had fun. News Years Day 's turnout was also great. The snow presented challenging fun, some had skis others used the landing strip that was shoveled. It was really a great day of flying!!!

This year will be a good one. We will be presenting our proposed next moves for the organization during the January meeting. Until then Happy New Year to all. We’ll see you down at the field.

Message from the VP…
Thanks everyone for a Great 2005. Your board has worked very hard. The field improvements have made flying at the swamp a real pleasure. I had a ball at the New Year’s Day “Freeze Fly“. We lucked out with the weather again. I'm looking forward to the New Year and some new planes for the 2006 season. Thinned out the herd a little this year.

I'm going to be skiing a lot this winter so if anyone is looking for a skiing partner in Vt., give me a call. I'll be flying down the mountains.

Steve Ludwig, ECSF Vice President

Treasure‘s Report…
December ended the year on a positive note. Going into January we have approximately 100 members who have renewed their dues for 2006. The treasury has been fatten up to the tune of $10400.00 Dollars. This will enable us to fund our well attended picnics along with some improvements to the field. Of course we will continue to monitor costs so that our treasury remains in good shape. The clubs picnics and Christmas parties were a success and we hope this years will be even better. More raffles to come this year. Any suggestions on what you might like to see raffled off? Another engine, radio?

Our rainy day fund is in the form of a CD and I plan to add to it for the fiscal year 2006. In just a few short years we will start to see a nice balance accumulating, which will be comforting to know that the Swamp Flyers now have funds put away for an emergency.

Those members that haven't had a chance to send

in their dues for 2006 continue to due so. We want to see all of you this season at the field. Anyone that needs their AMA cards punch see one of the officers at the field. See you at the field.

Joe Malec, ECSF Treasurer

Upcoming Events…
January 18 - E.C.S.F. Meeting. 7:00 p.m. @ Foxon Community Center

Minutes…
This year’s Christmas Party was again held at Bobby’s Pizza. The folks their really made the evening fun and relaxing.

Many pizza’s and an unknown amount of beer was consumed by our members. We all had a great time reminiscing about the past year and dreaming about what will be next year. As the festivities were winding down, this year’s event was concluded with the 1st Annual E.C.S.F. Award Ceremony. To be an MC is all about presentation, and Mark did a superb job. The Awards for 2005 were:

  • “Lowest Invert on a Trim Flight” Award to Chris Petriccione.
  • “Snap Roll” Award to Rob Dietz.
  • “Steck Der Die Pfiefe In Den Arsch” Award to Ernie Vongher.
  • “Best non-Engagement in a Combat Fight” Award to Joe Malec.
  • “Ping” Award to Chip Krantz.
Anyone witnessing something worthy of an award for 2006, please contact the editor.

From the Flight Line…
The training season has official come to an end. With the onset of snow and extremely cold weather, it is all but impossible for training to happen. But that does not mean training has to end all together. For those with simulators, I am available, on an individual basis, to come over and give some computer-based

instruction. Some stick time on a simulator will greatly shorten the shake-out time come Spring. Please contact me if interested.

The winter season is also an excellent time to get ready for the next flying season. Remembering to cycle your batteries can really make a difference in battery life, as well as avoid a potential disaster. Another great use of the off-season is general airplane maintenance; checking linkages, motor and servo maintenance, and overall appearance. Preparation is the key to success!

The Field Cleanup is at a temporary stopping point until the weather makes a change for the better. There is a lot of work ahead, so please make some time to get involved.

The W.R.A.M. show is coming to Westchester, New York on the weekend of February 24-26. Individual entrance is $10 per day. This is an excellent opportunity to see the products up close and personal. There are many manufacturers represented, bringing all their latest equipment. This is a great experience for new and veteran pilots alike. Think about attending!

Until Next Time ... Happy Landings!
