We have a lot to cover in this issue, so I won’t make it worse by adding any needless words. But before I continue, I wanted to remind everyone that this months meeting will also be our annual building contest. Any plane built this year, even if flown, can be entered.

Message from the prez…
Spring is finally here!!! The field has never been in better shape. The renovations are pretty much complete. Most of the mulch has been put down in the pit area and the field has been rolled. Thanks to Earl Tucker of Empire Paving, he was generous to give us the same pricing as he did ten years ago. Using a 10 ton vibrating roller the field is fantastic. As you receive this we should have all the spools for tables already in place. As well the road will be re -graveled before the end of the month. (Put up with the bumps a little longer. We need the surface to be fairly dried out so the gravel doesn’t just go down into the mud). Last I talked to Chris P the new component for the gate have been fabricated and are waiting installation.

We had a meeting with our neighbor Ms. Newton. During our clean up some of her fence was damaged. We’ve since replaced the section in question. During my conversations with Ms. Newton she informed me that the intentions of the farm is to stay a farm. She has no intentions of selling out to contractors for building purpose. Also I asked if our normal flight path came in the proximity of the house. The answer was no. Now this does not mean extend your flying in the farmer’s field, stick to our normal routine and we will be fine. Special thanks to the morning and afternoon crew for doing fence detail. The goal is to have the field ready for the first picnic at the end of the month. After that we’ll be getting ready for the scout picnic. You’ll all be informed.

Well the meeting……….. The meeting was very interesting. We disused the status of the club field and finances etc. but mainly we resolved the duties of the safety officer. As a governing board we made our recommendations to the membership, the members voiced their view s on the subject. The result ended with duties in accordance with AMA as well as what

we as a club feel works for us. Everyone had their fair say.

I’d like to touch base with our teaching program. We could really use some help from our more experienced flyers. Give back to the hobby. Teaching is on Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoon into the evening starting around 4:00 clock. If you could give a couple of hours the gratification is wonderful. When you see the guy progressing it’s just tremendous. So get out there!

Included at the end of this newsletter is a summary of bylaw changes that have been voted in during past meetings. These changes will be incorporated into the next revision of the bylaws.

In closing have a great spring flying season, be safe and happy landings!

Mark Castiglione, ECSF President

From the Flight Line…
Flight instruction has been underway for several weeks now. Group 2&3 pilots, as well as several newcomers, continue to learn at a good pace, many shaking off the winter cobwebs rather quickly. If students continue to learn at this pace, the graduating class of June ‘06 should contain 5 or 6 very capable pilots. For those Group 2&3 students from ‘05 who have not rejoined their class yet, please come out and continue your instruction. Graduation is in sight, so let’s not fall behind now. At this point, notable mentions to Ricky Weiss Jr., Paul Hart and Jim Shefcyk, your hard work has not gone unnoticed. Great Job! Also, all past and present instructors are welcome to come and support our training classes with their time and effort. This includes Group 1 pilots as well, don’t be shy. You can help with plane setup, engine tuning and run-up, taxi and pattern work. All help is appreciated.

Many hours of hard work to our field has provided a much needed facelift. The field is growing in and we are starting to see the fruits of our labors. In addition, our field has been rolled with a 10 ton roller and a new fence between our field and the farmer’s field has been installed. We are also looking toward chipping of some remaining debris. This is tentatively scheduled for June, pending repairs to the chipper. Our new gate has been tacked and awaiting installation, this is pending scheduling the mobile welding truck. Once installed, our day crew has offered to apply a nice coat of paint. Thank you guys!

Safety will be a continuing effort at our flight

line in accordance with the AMA guidelines. This will include marking pilot stations, pilot line, flight line and helipad. Remember, your AMA card must be placed in the proper frequency slot prior to flying. Please also try to remember to take them home with you as well.

I look forward to enjoying our Memorial Day Picnic with everyone on our freshly rolled field.

Chris Petriccione, ECSF Head Flight Instructor / Safety Officer

Until Next Time ... Happy Landings!
