Another month has gone by already. With it, the end of summer. Our nights are getting chilly and days not getting quite as warm as they used to. But that doesn’t mean flying is almost over. So have your skis ready for a fun winter flying season.

Message from the prez…
Well another great summer season of flying is coming to a close, and there’s still a lot of fall flying left. Those cooler temperatures mean power for our motors!!

The neighbor’s picnic was a tremendous success!! For all who helped, we appreciate the effort. Between the guys who mailed out the invitation's, helped at the field and the grill, and Ernie’s Clam chowder, we all had fun!!! Well-done guys!!

Huge congratulations to our graduating students of group 1. Brian, Bill, Rob, Joe and Jacque…. A loud hand of applause! You men have shown great dedication to the hobby; learning safety procedures, linkage setup, airworthiness, balance and field protocol as well as completing a comprehensive training program!!! Outstanding!!! Hurrah!!! To Chris Petriccione, for his effort to this hobby and to our club as the first designated Head Flight Instructor, we say Thank You. The pilots you’ve produced can stand proudly and confidently in any conditions on our flight line.

The clubs next move will be reclaiming our field. For years the brush has been a growing problem. This fall, we will be looking for a club effort initiating this task. Our flight instructor, Chris Petriccione, has associates through his welding company with the brush cutting equipment to accomplish this goal. We will be reclaiming the road and the approaches as well as surrounding areas. To our younger members, we’ll need your backs; to our senior member‘s, your guidance. Any help will be welcomed. The dates will be published via e-mail, newsletter and posted at the field. Happy landings.

Mark Castiglione, ECSF President

Treasurer‘s Report……
Well its that time of year again when the leaves start turning, the days get shorter, and its a little nippy in the morning, and next years dues reminder arrives in the mail. No rush to get them in, there is plenty of time, but we do need the renewals by Jan 1st. Happily, we will go into the new year with a positive balance and we will have the rainy day fund established.

The Saito 100 4 stroke motor raffle went over very well and was won by Lou Bocciarelli at the neighborhood picnic. Enjoy Lou. Many thanks goes to Rob Molloy and his wife for all their hard work. They made $225.00 over the cost of the motor for the club. Would you members like to have another raffle? Any suggestions let us know. Thanks again Rob.

See you at the field. Joe

A note of thanks…
September was an extremely busy month for E.C.S.F and it was great to see so many members get involved with club activities. Remember, it’s never too late to get involved. Many hands make light work. So come out and support our club.

Advanced apologies if your name has been omitted in error. Your name may have been forgotten, but never your contribution. So Thanks!

Thanks to John Zalonski, Jacque Bourque, Brian Frosolone, Ed Berlin and Rob Samokar for their time and effort putting up the remaining fence and weed killing the pit area at the work party for the Neighbor’s Picnic.

A big thanks to Lou Bocciarelli, E.C.S.F. Nominee Dirk Ras, Ernie Vongher, John Zalonski, Dick Lacy, Mark Castiglione, Bob Gamache, Ed Olstein and Arnie Orff whose effort made this years Neighbor’s Picnic a huge success. I personally heard many neighbor’s thanking the club for this wonderful event.

Our raffle was an extremely successful event for the second straight year. Thank you Rob Molloy. Great job!

The members of AMA Training Class 1 would like to say thank you to Chris Petriccione, Mark Castiglione, Jim Cyr, Dave Teer, Steve Ludwig and Vinny Esposito. Because of you, AMA Training Class 1 has fulfilled all their requirements and are now free to fly.

Upcoming Events…
October 19 - Meeting @ Foxon Community Center.

Minutes…
Unfortunately, our meeting held on September 21st did not meet the minimum number of members to vote on the open motions. One motion will require all pilots joining the club to pass the AMA Training Test. The other motion will make the safety officer an elected position and require all nominations, for any position, to be made a minimum of 30 days before voting. Your attendance will allow us to have this vote. So please plan on attending the upcoming meeting.

Chris mentioned that he will have access to some tree/brush removal equipment sometime in November. We need to think about what needs
to be done, where and how much. This work event will require many members to be successful. No exact date as been set. Much more to come on this in the next newsletter.

Once again the topic of trash removal has been mentioned. For those already removing their trash, thank you. If not, please think about bringing some bags to the field and taking your trash home. If you don’t, someone else has to. Thanks for your cooperation.

The first topic covered during the meeting was foam electric ducted fan planes. For those that attended the picnic, these were the planes that Mark, Chris and Vinny flew later in the day. These planes are a great alternative to the expense of a turbine engine. They fly and build well, and basically have no bad tendencies.

Currently Alfa Models, distributed by Hobby Lobby, has three versions of these ducted fans. They are the MIG-15, F-86 Sabre and the Focke Wulf Ta-183. Each has an approximate wingspan of 28 inches, length of 30 inches and cost of $500 RTF without transmitter.

The second topic was alternative covering techniques. Mark demonstrated how easy it is to tissue or fiberglass over sheeted balsa. Great job Mark!

From the Flight Line……
The training staff would like to announce the following schedule change that will become effective the week after Daylight Savings Time ends, October 30th.

Thursdays @ 5:30 p.m.
Saturday @ 1:00 p.m.

Once the day becomes too short, Thursday training will end. This is a decision that will be made on a week by week basis by the training staff.

Congratulations to AMA Training Class 1. Jacque Bourque, Bill Rosenquest, Brian Frosolone, Joe Ippi and Rob Samokar have all

met the minimum requirements for pilot safety set forth by the AMA. Great job!

Highlights of this program, held every Tuesday/Thursday since April 15th include: safety, field protocol, general knowledge of the airplane, takeoffs, landings, patterns, aerobatics and emergency procedures. All work culminated in a graduation demonstration which was held on September 24th. Thanks to all that attended to witness this first event. And thanks for the dedicated use of the field until the ceremony was complete.

The training staff would also like to welcome AMA Training Class 2. This class has already started and is scheduled for completion sometime in December, weather permitting. Class 2 members are Jim Shefcyk, Dan DeBerry, Chris Broomfield, Joe Alcott, Rick Weiss, Rick Weiss Jr., Joe Carmosino and Chip Krantz. Good luck guys.

Chris Petriccione, ECSF Head Flight Instructor

Until next time ... Happy Landings!
